52 Weeks of Less Stuff: Week 15

Week 15 – Spice Rack

Oh spice rack. I love(d) in concept but not in reality and use. This was one of those items that came with spices and I honestly didn’t use 80% of them. Again, I am not a big cook-cook. I love food, I just don’t stray too far from the path. You may be thinking why didn’t you just toss the spices you didn’t use and fill it with ones you did, that would work except the containers were pre-labelled. So that, on top of the fact that it was a bit of a pain to keep clean and I didn’t love having it on my counter I decided to evict. I spent a day cleaning out my spice rack and and reorganizing it and really I didn’t need the counter rack anymore. So a win-win.

  1. Great post! I myself and trying to de-clutter and try and become as minimalist as possible. Definitely not worth keeping something like a spice rack if you don’t use it on a regular basis!

    • Thanks. It is amazing the things you keep for no other reason than ‘because’. I have found doing this challenge has really made me aware of what I purchase and given me a different outlook on my spending habits. Sometimes it is too easy to fall for those gimmicks so I’m trying to curb the habit.

  2. Spice racks are silly for two kinds of people – serious cooks, who buy spices in large quantities, and minimalist cooks, who don’t use the spices fast enough. I fall in the former category, and applaud you for dispensing with the cumbersome “counter art.” 🙂
