Author: Jessica Sorensen
Summary: The dark secret Kayden has kept hidden for years is out. Worse, he’s facing charges for battery. The only way he stands a chance against the charges is if Callie speaks up, something he’ll never ask her to do.
Callie knows Kayden is going back to his dark place and desperately wants to save him. But saving him means admitting her secrets aloud. Callie and Kayden are stronger than they think, especially when they’re together. Together they move forward, face their demons, and finally start to heal from their traumatic pasts. – GoodReads
I have been waiting for MONTHS and MONTHS for this book to be released. The end of The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden was and is probably the WORST cliffhanger I have ever dealt with in book form. I was convinced my ebook had a bug and had deleted a portion of the book. In fact, I was so sure I was scouring Good Reads and other blogs to see if it was just my copy or if Sorensen decided to torture us poor book lovers. Apparently torture was on the menu. Thankfully book #2 does not end with a horrific cliffhanger that almost makes you mad you starting read this incredible story.
The book picks up right where the first book ended. I was so glad it didn’t jump a few months ahead and we were left with the fallout and getting flashbacks. If you have read any of my reviews you know that I like experiencing the story, not being told. Sorensen does an excellent job of pulling us in and you can’t help but feel for this cast of characters. It helps that the POV jumps and we get both sides of the story. You’ll get Callie’s view, emotions and reactions and then you’ll get Kayden’s for the same situation. So when something big is going on you get to experience it from both sides, which I love.
“There is something about someone trusting you enough with their secrets that it makes it easier to trust them. It’s like they’re opening their heart and in return yours should open up to them, too.”
Considering all that came out during book 1 I was a bit unsure how Sorensen was going to navigate this. As I dived deeper into the book and got all the fresh angles and takes I was once again blown away. Sorensen does not take the easy way and where other authors have gone the cliche, predictable and sappy route Sorensen makes her characters tackle a mountain with little to no gear. You can’t help but become invested in this tale and the characters in it. You can’t help but love her attention to detail, how she ties it all together.
Considering what an emotional roller coaster this book is, one almost expects to have a cloud of angst above them, but throughout the book there is a sliver of hope. Despite all the horrible you never feel weighed down by it.
“Maybe if I try hard enough, we’ll fall into each other and become one single person and we can share our pain instead of carrying it by ourselves.”
