Summary: Sometimes surviving doesn’t feel lucky. Especially when you’re a sole survivor…
At the age of seven, Malerie walked away from a bombing that left hundreds dead—including her mother. When a crazed gunman kills her guardian on her eighteenth birthday, Malerie suspects there may be more to her survival than luck. A mysterious code holds the key to her future, and a reluctant white knight holds the key to her heart.
A loner wearing emotional armor…
Ace is a twenty-year-old entrepreneur focusing on two things in life: financial security and a life without ties. A life that doesn’t risk losing the ones who matter. When Ace is hired to secretly act as a bodyguard for Malerie, he faces an unwanted attraction that threatens to sabotage his heart. Can Ace find the courage to love a girl with a death wish?
My Review: This is my second book from Brinda Berry and I need to get my hands on the rest of her work! I really enjoy her style of writing!
Within paragraphs of this book I knew I was in for an emotionally powerful book, however I did feel some trepidation. I’ve been here before where I am hooked within the first few pages and then the book looses its oomph. Thank you Brinda Berry for continuing the pain, the punches, the hits, and the suspense throughout the book! You yanked me in and did not let go, just the way I like it! When the book finished I felt as if I was coming up for air!
Malerie has had a horrible life! And by horrible I do not mean a little speed bump here or there but more devastating and heartbreaking with a side of gut-wrenching pain! So when she is trying to continue with her life and she gets another blow she’s stunned; frozen in place and unsure whom she can trust.
Ace is struggling to make it and when his gut instincts save Malerie he’s got to continue to trust them and convince the girl that is scared of her own shadow to as well.
Once I started this book I could not put it down! Brinda Berry has an excellent way of making a hand graze read as if fireworks are shoots off the pages of the book!
